Rewrite of blog 2, To Tweet or Not To Tweet:
Social media has become a major source of communication, education
and resources for everyone that has access. Although there are any benefits to
being able to post and share so readily, many problems can arise. Dana Brownlee
from the Huffington raises the question “To Tweet or not to Tweet”, she expands
on the social and ethical issues that can come across our feeds, but concludes
with expressing how twitter can be a great tool for leaders and how the run a
community. In my case a classroom. From Brownlees article I have taken down
some crucial tips when owning an online account.
These tips could help in the long run when considering your work
place or social life.
Though there are many flaws and concerns around twitter,
it can be a great platform for teachers. This social platform can connect
teachers from all over the world. It enables a reliable source communication,
have additional resources that you could use in broadening your knowledge and new
techniques that you can use in the classroom. Being able to communicate with
other teachers may provide motivation and assistance. Though it is important that when using any
social media that your private life is separated from your personal life. You need
to know your rights and responsibilities as well as your limits. These things
are crucial when it comes to how others perceive you.
William Ferriter (educational leadership) speaks about
the personal effect twitter has had on his life and his teaching career. He states
that this social media platform has changed the way he thinks about the effect
of 21st century technology and how it can enable such a change in
the students as well as the teachers. He wants all teachers to adapt to the
changes in digital opportunities as facilitating the students’ needs are a crucial
part of development for the children and the future community.
Before you post, stop and think about who it may affect
and what you want to project through your online profile.
